Avoid partisan politics, nocturnal meetings, Fubara urges new CP

Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has advised the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, to maintain professionalism, avoid partisan politics, and steer clear of nocturnal meetings that could disrupt the state’s stability.

Fubara gave the advice on Friday while welcoming Adepoju to the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The governor reminded Adepoju that his primary responsibilities include maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives and property, and collaborating with the government and other security agencies to ensure the safety of Rivers State residents.

Fubara stated, “You are not new to our state. You’ve served here before, particularly in operations. Your duty now is to work alongside the government and sister agencies to uphold law and order and protect the lives and properties of our people. Do not get involved in politics. Stay apolitical, as you emphasized in your remarks.

“Avoid nocturnal meetings in private homes that might lead to chaos in Rivers State. That is my key advice to you.”

The governor further noted that Adepoju’s appointment was a result of divine providence, not human influence, urging him to leave a positive legacy in the state.

“It’s not about who you know or who claims they recommended you. Ultimately, it is God’s will that prevails. But remember, leaving a bad record here could hinder your career progression. We won’t ask you to engage in anything unprofessional, as that has never been my approach.”

Fubara also assured the new police commissioner of the government’s support, highlighting specific security concerns in the state.

“Your predecessors succeeded because of our support, and we want you to succeed as well to sustain the peace we currently enjoy. Since you already know the terrain, your focus should be on addressing cultism and kidnapping, especially in the outskirts. Present your plans, and we’ll provide the necessary support to tackle these issues.”

In response, CP Adepoju expressed gratitude for the warm reception and Governor Fubara’s guidance.

He pledged to work diligently and in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure security, peace, and safety across the state while addressing its unique security challenges.
