Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a significant milestone in the state’s transportation sector, with six new trains set to arrive to bolster the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines.
In a statement shared on his official Twitter page, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the transformative impact of this development on commuting and economic growth across the state.
“These train sets, having successfully passed factory acceptance tests, are scheduled for shipment.
“Once they arrive, they will increase trips on the Blue Line and prepare us for the extension to Okokomaiko upon the completion of phase two,” the governor stated.
The Blue Line, which began operations in September 2023 with 72 daily trips along the Marina-to-Mile 2 corridor, has already reshaped transportation in Lagos.
The governor noted that the addition of the new train sets would enhance capacity and efficiency, ensuring faster service for residents.
Sanwo-Olu also provided updates on the second phase of the Blue Line, a 14-kilometre extension from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, which is designed to connect more communities and bring the state closer to its vision of seamless mobility.
“This expansion underscores our commitment to building a Greater Lagos that works for everyone.
“The future of transportation is here, and Lagos is ready to lead the way,” he added.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering on infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for Lagosians, stating, “This is Lagos, and we deliver.”
With the arrival of the new train sets, Lagos State continues its strides toward modernizing its transportation system and driving economic progress.
