Police nab notorious car thieves in Anambra, recover vehicle

Law enforcement authorities in Anambra State have apprehended three notorious individuals suspected of involvement in car theft within the state.

The state police spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to Ikenga, the suspects were detained on Wednesday in the Enugu-Ukwu area of Njikoka Local Government Area.

The arrest followed an operation by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, which intercepted the suspects in a Lexus 330 SUV without a license plate at a junction in Awka.

The suspects, identified as Ifesinachi Okonkwo (22), Chisom Okafor (20), and Oderah Ebenezer (20), reportedly confessed during interrogation to stealing the vehicle from Isuaniocha Village in Awka North.

They also admitted to being part of a gang responsible for criminal activities in the area.

The recovered SUV, believed to have been stolen, is currently in police custody.

Superintendent Ikenga stated that the Anambra State Police Command is inviting anyone whose vehicle matches the description of the recovered SUV to visit their office in Awka.

Claimants must provide valid proof of ownership for verification and retrieval.

Ikenga reiterated the police’s commitment to tackling crime in the state and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing useful information.
