Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has declared Friday as a work-free day for civil servants in the state in preparation for the local government elections set to take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

The elections will be held across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State, with over 10 political parties fielding candidates, according to the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that the work-free day would allow government workers the opportunity to travel to their respective communities to participate in the electoral process.

“The Ondo State Government has declared Friday, 17th of January 2025, as a work-free day for public servants to enable them to travel and exercise their civic duties in the local government election,” the statement read.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also urged all stakeholders to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, free, and fair manner.
