Zamfara governor launches recruitment of 2,000 teachers to boost education sector

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has initiated plans to hire 2,000 teachers, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving education.

The announcement, made during an Executive Council meeting on Monday at the Government House in Gusau, was later detailed in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the recruitment drive aligns with Governor Lawal’s campaign promises and underscores the administration’s prioritization of education.

Significant strides have already been made, including declaring a state of emergency in the education sector on November 14, 2023.

The emergency measures include constructing and renovating over 400 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas, providing 12,000 two-seater desks for students, and equipping schools with more than 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers.

Governor Lawal emphasized during the meeting that the hiring process will be conducted in phases to ensure transparency and the selection of qualified personnel.

The first phase, involving the recruitment of 500 teachers, will prioritize key subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship studies.

“This initiative, part of the AGILE Program, is designed to address the challenges in the education sector and elevate the quality of teaching and learning in Zamfara State schools,” the governor stated.
