Hon. Adigun Abass, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State, was recently seen grappling with his English while attempting to present a motion in the House.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker visibly struggled to express his points, prompting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to step in and offer assistance as he tried to guide Abass through the motion.
Despite the Speaker’s guidance, the representative continued to face difficulties and, after several unsuccessful attempts, was allowed to return to his seat.
The incident sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some questioning Abass’s qualifications and the overall competence of lawmakers in the National Assembly. However, others defended him, highlighting his contributions to his constituency.
One supporter praised Abass for his numerous empowerment programs, acknowledging that while his communication skills may need improvement, his impact on his constituents cannot be overlooked.
Another constituent shared that they were not concerned about his English proficiency, emphasizing the various projects he has brought to the community, such as scholarships, security initiatives, and infrastructure development.
