Police recover over N129 billion fake currency in Kano, arrest suspects

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully intercepted fake currencies worth more than N129 billion during an operation in Kano State.

The operation, conducted on December 8, 2024, in Gwale, Kano, also resulted in the apprehension of three suspects and the seizure of a significant stash of fake money.

Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the operation was a strategic move to combat financial crimes and shield the nation’s economy from criminal activities.

“On December 8, 2024, police operatives in Gwale, Kano, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Nura Ibrahim and uncovered counterfeit currency totaling N129,542,823,000.

“The fake money included $3,366,000 in counterfeit US dollars, 51,970 counterfeit CFA francs, and N1,443,000 in fake naira notes,” Adejobi stated.

Subsequent investigations led to the detention of two other suspects, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, who are believed to have been part of the illicit operation.

Adejobi highlighted the importance of the arrests, reiterating the police’s determination to combat economic sabotage.

He also assured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s financial stability.
