Anambra govt shuts brothel, rescues 10 sex workers

Must read

The Anambra State Government, through its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, has sealed a brothel in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, notorious for illegal activities.

The facility, whose name was withheld, was reportedly a haven for underaged sex workers, drug peddlers, armed robbers, and other criminal elements.

During the raid, OCHA operatives rescued at least 10 sex workers, including minors.

The operation followed thorough surveillance and intelligence gathering on the illegal activities at the location.

In a press statement on Thursday, the agency’s Managing Director, Celestine Anere, disclosed that the brothel had been under observation for its involvement in crimes ranging from drug trafficking to harboring underaged sex workers.

Anere stated, “This operation was carried out after an intelligence report revealed that the brothel’s illegal activities were fueling various crimes, including drug trafficking and the exploitation of minors. It also served as a hideout for armed robbers and other criminals.

“We are committed to ensuring that the operators of this facility are arrested and prosecuted to deter others engaging in similar illegal operations across the state.”

The government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities and pledged to continue its efforts to clean up the state.
