A combined security team comprising the Police, Military, and other agencies has neutralized five suspected criminals and destroyed their hideout in Anambra State.
The Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a press statement issued in Awka, the state capital.
The operation, carried out on January 14, 2025, at around 12:30 p.m., targeted a criminal gang camp along Umuogem Road in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.
According to Ikenga, the joint team successfully dismantled the gang’s operations, killing five members, while others managed to escape with gunshot injuries.
The team also demolished the gang’s camp and recovered several items, including two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, four undetonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a 75-volt battery, and other incriminating materials.
“The success of the operation is attributed to the effective collaboration among the security agencies,” Ikenga stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the security forces for their coordinated efforts and urged local residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement to eradicate criminal activities in the area.
