N50 billion allocation inadequate to tackle insecurity in Nigeria – Matawalle

Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle has described the proposed N50 billion budget for the Ministry of Defence in 2025 as insufficient to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges.

Speaking during his budget defence before the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Matawalle emphasized the need for increased funding to address the nation’s security concerns effectively.

He assured lawmakers that with adequate funding, issues such as banditry could be resolved within two months.

Despite the limited resources, he pledged the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens.

The committee, chaired by Babajimi Benson, resolved to increase the budgetary allocation to the ministry, citing the critical role of defence in safeguarding the nation.

Benson underscored the importance of the sector as the foundation of Nigeria’s security architecture.

This decision followed a motion by committee member Philip Agbese, who praised the military for its ongoing efforts in combating insecurity across the country.
