The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has disclosed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) requires approximately N2.8 trillion to implement 149 projects designed to address the country’s ongoing electricity challenges.
While presenting the ministry’s budget at the National Assembly, Adelabu stressed the critical importance of funding these initiatives to upgrade and expand the nation’s transmission infrastructure.
He explained that the projects aim to enhance power supply reliability, minimize grid failures, and improve energy access nationwide.
“For TCN alone, an estimated N2.779 trillion is needed to carry out the 149 projects currently underway across the country.
“Unfortunately, our ministry’s entire budget falls short of this figure, but as the saying goes, ‘half a loaf is better than none,’” he stated.
Adelabu called for the lawmakers’ support and collaboration to fulfil the administration’s commitment to ensuring consistent electricity for Nigerians.
