Man arrested for allegedly killing father after consuming “colorado” in Sapele

A 23-year-old man, Prince Nyerovho, has been arrested in Sapele, Delta State, for allegedly stabbing his 65-year-old father to death after consuming a synthetic drug known as “Colorado.”

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday in the Amukpe area, leaving the community in disbelief.

According to family sources, Prince had a history of addiction to synthetic cannabinoids, also referred to as “Spice.” His dependency on the drug had caused severe mood swings and violent outbursts. In the past, Prince was said to have attempted to strangle his mother during one of his episodes.

“This isn’t the first time Prince has acted violently under the influence of drugs,” a family member revealed.

“His addiction had gotten out of hand, and despite his mother’s efforts to help, the financial strain became overwhelming.”

Prince’s mother had sought help from rehabilitation centers in Benin City, Edo State, and a mental health facility in Sapele, but was unable to continue due to financial constraints.

On the day of the incident, after consuming “Colorado,” Prince reportedly demanded N5,000 from his father. When his request was denied, his anger quickly escalated. His father locked himself in his room to avoid confrontation, but this only enraged Prince further.

In a fit of rage, Prince allegedly broke down the door to his father’s room. His younger sister, who tried to intervene, was injured in the process. “She did her best to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen,” a neighbor recalled. “It was horrifying.”

Neighbors, drawn to the scene by the commotion, found Prince’s father dead on the floor, having been fatally stabbed. His younger sister raised the alarm, prompting the community to intervene.

When the police arrived, Prince was subdued by neighbors and handed over to the police.
