Ex-Northern Governor resigns from PDP

Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, a two-term governor of Sokoto State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and dated January 8, 2025, Bafarawa outlined his reasons for stepping down. The letter was formally received at the party’s national secretariat on January 13.

Bafarawa stated that his resignation would allow him to concentrate on his role as a leader of the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), a youth-focused organization he co-founded in late 2024.

The NGO, which was recently launched at Arewa House in Kaduna, is dedicated to promoting youth entrepreneurship and self-reliance across the northern region.

In his statement, Bafarawa explained, “My focus now is on creating awareness and driving initiatives that empower our youth to become self-reliant, reduce redundancy, and foster productivity.”

He expressed gratitude for his time with the PDP and extended his best wishes to the party’s leadership, pledging to remain committed to his new mission of fostering youth development.
