Obasa’s portrait removed from Lagos Assembly following impeachment

Must read

Hours after the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, his official portrait was taken down from the Assembly complex.

In a widely shared video, a man dressed in a blue caftan and face cap was seen removing Obasa’s portrait from the wall.

Background voices could be heard cheering as the portrait was taken down.

The video, however, did not reveal if Obasa’s portrait was immediately replaced by that of the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

Afripost reports that Obasa was impeached on Monday, January 13, by members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Shortly after the impeachment, Meranda, who had served as Deputy Speaker and represents Apapa Constituency I, assumed the role of Speaker.

The power shift has sparked widespread discussion about the leadership transition and its implications for the Lagos State Assembly.
