New Lagos Speaker, Meranda, seeks GAC’s blessing after election

Must read

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, paid a visit to the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday, a day after her election, to seek their blessings.

Speaking to the press, Meranda explained that her visit was to brief the GAC on the events that transpired in the Assembly the previous day and to request their support for her leadership, which she confirmed she received.

The GAC, which serves as the highest decision-making body for the ruling party in Lagos, endorsed Meranda’s leadership during a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina.

Meranda expressed her gratitude, saying, “We briefed the GAC on the developments in the Assembly and sought their blessings, which we have now received.”

While the GAC, led by Tajudeen Olusi, chose not to speak to the press afterward, sources confirmed the meeting’s positive outcome.

The visit occurred shortly after Meranda succeeded the impeached Mudashiru Obasa, who is currently abroad. Obasa was removed from office on Monday due to allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement.

Meranda’s election followed his removal, and significant changes in the House, including the dismissal of the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, and the dissolution of all standing committees, took place shortly thereafter.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was absent due to official duties abroad, did not participate in the GAC meeting.
