Lagos Assembly gets first female Speaker after Obasa’s impeachment

Mojisola Miranda, representing the Apapa 1 constituency, has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.

The impeachment, executed by 32 members of the House, led to Miranda’s immediate swearing-in as the new Speaker.

Previously the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Miranda now takes charge of the 40-member legislature.

In addition, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, who served as the Deputy Chief Whip, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker.

Obasa’s removal followed serious allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against him.
