APC chieftain reveals Tinubu attempted to stop Obasa’s impeachment

Must read

Fouad Oki, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that President Bola Tinubu sought to mediate the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly during the Christmas holiday.

Speaking on a Channels Television program on Monday, Oki disclosed that Tinubu’s intervention efforts failed due to the refusal of the now-impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to compromise.

AFRIPOST reports that Obasa was removed from office on Monday by state lawmakers over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement and was subsequently replaced by his former deputy, Mojisola Meranda.

Oki explained that the party’s Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) had alerted Tinubu to the escalating tensions within the assembly while he was in Lagos for the holiday.

“Before the president returned, the issue had already been brewing. The GAC, in its wisdom, brought the matter to his attention,” Oki stated.

“As a leader and father, the president convened a meeting to address the concerns raised by party elders.

“Unfortunately, his efforts were met with resistance from Obasa. That resistance, in my opinion, led to his downfall.”

The APC chieftain further clarified that the decision to impeach Obasa was not made hastily but was the outcome of prolonged tensions and his disregard for the advice of party elders.
