A communal clash between the Owake and Ebo communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State has led to the death of an unidentified man and left several others injured.
During the conflict, a house belonging to Omorinbola Francis was set ablaze, and some residents injured in the skirmish were quickly taken to the newly opened Federal Medical Centre in Iwaro-Oka for treatment.
A source, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the Palace of Asin of Oka-Odo and an event hall were also destroyed in the violence.
According to the source, the Oka-Odo community came under attack late Sunday night by suspected hoodlums, allegedly from the neighboring Ebo community.
“Both the Palace and the Event Hall were completely destroyed, and several houses were burned down. It is tragic that Mr. Omorinbola Francis’ house, also known as Ekoro, was engulfed in flames, and efforts to put out the fire were unsuccessful,” the source said.
Earlier in the day, members of the Owake community had gone to lands along Ikun road to erect signposts in line with a ruling from the Appeal Court, which affirmed that the disputed land belonged to them. However, on their way back, they were ambushed by suspected thugs who launched a brutal attack, leaving several Owake residents injured.
The victims were immediately rushed to the newly commissioned Federal Medical Centre for urgent medical care.
