Laolu Akande, former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has refuted claims that Osinbajo has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) or stepped back from political engagements.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, Akande clarified that there is no evidence to support rumors of the former Vice President’s departure from the APC or withdrawal from politics.
Since leaving office in 2023, Osinbajo has maintained a low public profile, fueling speculation about his political future. Notably, he contested the APC presidential primary in 2022 but lost the ticket to President Bola Tinubu.
Addressing the rumors, Akande emphasized that, to the best of his knowledge, Osinbajo remains an active member of the party and would attend any official APC meetings he is invited to.
“I don’t want to draw him into my personal comments, but there’s no basis to suggest he’s no longer in the APC. He is still a member of the party. If he receives an invitation to the caucus or other party meetings, he will attend,” Akande stated.
Osinbajo, who recently assumed a global advisory role with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), has yet to reveal any concrete plans regarding his political career.
