Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to honor the late Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States, with a memorial service on Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, was a close friend and ally of Obasanjo. He was the longest-living U.S. president and the first to reach a century of life.
The service will take place at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King, within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, starting at 9:00 AM.
Rev. Israel Akanji, President of the Baptist Convention, is scheduled to deliver a special sermon during the event.
According to a statement from Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former Nigerian president will also pay tribute to his friend by delivering a special address titled “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan.”
