Nigerian Army announces redeployment of senior officers

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has implemented a significant shake-up within the Nigerian Army, involving the redeployment of top-ranking officers.

The reshuffle includes new appointments for General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), Corps Commanders, and the Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

In a statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the redeployment is part of the army’s strategic efforts to tackle emerging security threats and strengthen operations against terrorism, insurgency, and other national security challenges.

Among the new appointments, Major General OT Olatoye has been named GOC of the 82 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation Udoka, based in Enugu. Major General EF Oyinlola has moved from the Department of Military Secretary to serve as the GOC of 3 Division Headquarters in Jos and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

Major General AGL Haruna has been confirmed as GOC of the 7 Division and Commander of Sector 1 JTF North East Operation Hadin Kai, while Major General IA Ajose will now serve as GOC of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 JTF North West Operation Fasan Yanma. Additionally, Major General GM Mutkut has been appointed Force Commander of the MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad.

Key appointments at Army Headquarters include Major General LA Fejokwu as Chief of Administration, Major General GU Chibuisi as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General AS Ndalolo as Chief of Training, Major General OS Abai as Chief of Transformation and Innovation, and Major General JH Abdussalam as Chief of Special Services and Programmes.

Other senior officers assuming new roles are Major General OC Ajunwa as Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Major General HT Wesley as Commander of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, and Major General TT Numbere as Commander of the Nigerian Army Engineers.

The shake-up also includes new commandants for key military institutions such as the Nigerian Army Training Centre, the Army War College Nigeria, and the Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

Lt. General Oluyede has called on the newly appointed officers to approach their assignments with renewed dedication, emphasizing the welfare of troops and the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
