A well collapse in Gargajiga town, Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State, resulted in one fatality and the rescue of two individuals, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
Saminu Abdullahi, the agency’s spokesperson, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the incident occurred during an effort to re-dig and repair the well.
The emergency was reported by Bashir Namadi, who placed a distress call prompting the Fire Service to respond.
“The collapse happened as three people—one inside the well and two outside—were working on it. The sides of the well caved in, trapping all three,” the statement explained.
The Fire Service rescue team arrived at the scene around 12:20 p.m. and managed to save two individuals alive.
However, one victim, identified as 50-year-old Yusuf Nadabo, was recovered unconscious and later pronounced dead.
The survivors were handed over to the ward head of Gargajiga town, Mr Abdullahi added.
