Okoya brothers summoned by EFCC over viral naira abuse video

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows the misuse of naira notes.

The video, which also featured a police officer, has sparked widespread outrage. In response, the Nigeria Police Force detained the officer involved, condemning his actions as improper and taking necessary disciplinary steps.

The incident has sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many accusing authorities of applying unequal standards. Some pointed to previous cases involving celebrities such as Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest, who faced swift action for similar offenses.

In light of the public backlash, the EFCC has issued a letter summoning the Okoya brothers to report to their Lagos office on January 13, 2025, for further investigation.

The summons was signed by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate.
