Ogun takes action against reported bandit invasion in South-West

The Ogun State Government has announced proactive measures to tackle security challenges, following reports of a bandit invasion in the South-West.

Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, revealed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta.

Akinmade assured the public that the state government maintains full control over its security infrastructure, with strong collaboration between security agencies and local security bodies.

He highlighted one of the key strategies to secure farmlands, including the deployment of armed security guards at the local level and regular patrols to ensure the safety of farmers.

Akinmade also pointed out that the state’s security arrangements have contributed to the peaceful atmosphere seen across Ogun during the festive period.

“The recent influx of bandits into the South-West coincided with a security meeting held by the heads of security agencies in Ogun. After a careful review of the situation, the agencies agreed to intensify their efforts to sustain the peace and tranquility the state has enjoyed. We are leaving no room for destabilizing infiltration by bandits from any part of the country,” he said.

The security agencies have reinforced their successful strategies, including increased visibility, regular patrols, and securing vulnerable areas.

Akinmade also mentioned the ongoing collaboration between Ogun and Oyo states in intelligence sharing, particularly concerning suspected bandit movements.

“The people of Ogun, regardless of ethnicity—Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Fulani, Edo, Igala, Urhobo, Ebira, and others—are united in their determination to protect the state’s peaceful environment,” he added.
