Must read

The Nigerian Army has instructed troops under Operation Fansan Yamma to either eliminate the Lakurawa sect or ensure their expulsion from the country’s territory.

The directive was issued on Friday by Maj.-Gen. Oluyinka Soleye, the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest, during a visit to troops stationed at Balle, the headquarters of Gudu Local Government Area in Sokoto State.

While addressing the soldiers, Soleye commended their commitment and urged them to remain resolute in their mission. He also assured them of the full support of Army headquarters.

“I am here to check on you and boost your morale. Let me assure you that we stand firmly behind you,” he said. “Do everything within your power to either eliminate the Lakurawa sect or ensure their complete removal from our territory.”

Soleye reiterated the Army’s commitment to ensuring the success of the operation and praised the troops for their dedication to maintaining security in the region.

Local Government Chairman Commends Troops
Speaking to journalists, Alhaji Buhari Kurdula, Chairman of Gudu Local Government, lauded the efforts of the troops in tackling security challenges, particularly in combating bandits and the Lakurawa sect.

Kurdula noted that while the sect had been present in the area for about eight years, it only established a more permanent base within the past year. He expressed optimism that the current decisive approach by the Army would bring lasting security to the region.

“With the firm stance of the government and the dedication of our troops, the threat posed by the Lakurawa sect and other security challenges will soon be a thing of the past,” Kurdula added.
