The Nigerian military has reported the killing of 109 terrorists and the arrest of 81 suspects during the first week of 2025.
Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, shared the update in a statement on Friday, reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to combating insurgents and their collaborators across the nation.
“During the week under review, troops neutralized 109 terrorists, arrested 81 suspects, and rescued 43 individuals previously kidnapped,” Buba stated.
In the northeast, troops from Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 64 terrorists, arrested 28 individuals, and freed 14 hostages.
On January 3, 2025, the air component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted a successful air interdiction in Alawa Forest, Shiroro LGA, Niger State. Battle damage assessments confirmed that several terrorists were killed, and their structures, along with logistical supplies, were destroyed.
In total, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA eliminated 21 terrorists, arrested 24 individuals, and rescued five hostages.
Efforts in the Niger Delta
In the Niger Delta, troops apprehended six individuals involved in oil theft, preventing the illegal extraction of crude oil worth ₦618,756,470.
Buba reported that troops also dismantled 10 illegal refining sites, destroyed 12 boats, 10 crude oil cooking ovens, and other equipment used for illicit operations.
He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies, underscoring the military’s determination to protect the nation.
“Troops are continuing their successful operational engagements, and citizens will increasingly witness the effectiveness and efficiency of the armed forces,” Buba concluded.
