Eric Chelle, the newly appointed head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, will earn a monthly salary of $55,000 (approximately N84.98 million), according to reports.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed his appointment on Tuesday after approving the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Chelle, who previously coached the Mali national team, is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday with two assistants.
He will be officially introduced in Abuja next Monday. Reports indicate that his assistants will each receive $5,000 per month.
Chelle is set to begin his duties immediately, taking charge of the Super Eagles B team ahead of the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN), which will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025.
A source close to the NFF disclosed to The Guardian that Chelle’s primary responsibilities will include leading the B team to the CHAN final and securing Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The source emphasized the importance of these tasks, describing the challenge as significant but not impossible. However, no NFF official was available for comment on the matter at the time.
