The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, identified as Augustus, for allegedly cloning the agency’s official website and circulating a fake recruitment notice.
The suspect, a content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo, was apprehended on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak, Akwa Ibom State. According to the DSS, Augustus’s actions were designed to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians into believing the agency was conducting a recruitment exercise.
“Operatives tracked and arrested the suspect at his residence in Abak Local Government Area. His activities were aimed at defrauding members of the public,” a source within the DSS disclosed.
The agency promptly flagged the fraudulent notice and issued a public advisory, warning citizens against falling victim to such scams.
Augustus is set to be arraigned in court, where he will face charges related to website cloning and attempted fraud.
