Suspected Boko Haram insurgents targeted the Divisional Police Station in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and leaving another injured.

Kenneth Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the attack in a statement, revealing that the assailants tried to seize control of the station but were successfully repelled by law enforcement personnel.

The attackers reportedly used hand grenades during the prolonged firefight, with one grenade landing on a tent behind the station and inflicting fatal injuries on two officers.

An assessment team, led by Borno State Commissioner of Police Yusufu Lawal, visited the scene following the incident.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from Base 13 Maiduguri recovered two unexploded grenades during the inspection.

The fallen officers’ remains have been taken to the State General Hospital in Maiduguri.

Commending the officers for their bravery, Commissioner Lawal offered condolences to the families of the deceased and praised the resilience of the personnel who successfully defended the station from being overrun.
