Suspected cultists kill three in Bayelsa community

Armed cultists, believed to be members of the Greenlanders, stormed Igbogene Community in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Wednesday night, killing three people.

The attackers, reportedly numbering around 10 and armed with deadly weapons, struck the community around 8 p.m., sending residents fleeing for safety.

A resident, who requested anonymity, shared on Thursday that the first victim was the son of the former head of the community’s vigilance group.

He was shot near his home. The second victim, not linked to any cult group, was killed after he failed to provide information on the whereabouts of his elder brother.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was the result of a feud between two rival cult groups, the Bobos and Greenlanders, with the culprits being locals from the community.

Ezekiel Igbenivie, the Youth President of Igbogene Community, confirmed the incident and noted that while the assailants fled, one of the victims remains alive and is receiving medical treatment in the hospital.

Police teams, including the Operation Door Kapoor Division, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and the Rapid Response Team, arrived at the scene, bringing the situation under control.

Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed the identities of the victims as Donaldson Mison, 28; Addy Mulan, 27; and Greenboy Dudella, 29.
