Reject forces of division, embrace forgiveness – Damagum to PDP members

The interim Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has called on party members to set aside differences and work towards resolving the internal conflicts plaguing the party.

AFRIPOST reports that PDP is facing a leadership dispute aimed at ousting Damagum from his position as chairman.

This turmoil has caused divisions among the party’s state governors and has further strained the relationship within the National Working Committee.

Speaking on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi during the conclusion of a two-day workshop on “Effective Media Awareness and Peace in the Political Arena” for social media practitioners from the North-West, Damagum emphasized the need for unity and focus. He stressed that the party must resist divisive forces and prioritize its shared goals.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Yusuf Dingyadi, Damagum appealed to party members, bloggers, and social media users to avoid spreading misinformation or engaging in defamatory behaviour.

“Our leadership is committed to fostering forgiveness, cohesion, and unity,” he said.

“We must reject propaganda and injustice while staying committed to our shared mission.

“The PDP is a progressive party, and it is essential to include everyone in our efforts at all levels.”

Damagum also criticized those within the party who, instead of contributing to peace and progress, have been promoting discord and animosity.

He expressed concern that certain factions were amplifying internal disagreements in ways that could damage the party’s reputation.

“The PDP is bigger than any individual,” he noted. “Our focus should be on building a united and forward-looking party that honours the principles of its founders.

“Spreading falsehoods, encouraging hatred, and engaging in character defamation not only harms the party but also jeopardizes the hard work of those dedicated to its success.”
