Brito Sporting Club of Portugal has officially signed 19-year-old Nigerian-born footballer Yaqub Usman-Malah, marking a significant step in the young player’s career.
The announcement was made during a formal unveiling ceremony on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Yaqub, born in Nigeria in 2006, had been a trainee at the Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom before his move to Portugal.
During his time at the academy, he made an impressive mark with 17 goals in 32 matches, accumulating 2,270 minutes of playing time over 116 training days without any injuries.
His performance at the academy caught the attention of many, including Tomasz Wasylik, the lead coach of the Under-17B team, who praised Yaqub for his professionalism, tactical ability, and versatility on the field.
Coach Wasylik described Yaqub as a well-liked and respected player, noting his ability to play in multiple positions and his strong work ethic.
Yaqub’s talent was also displayed in national competitions, where he competed in the National School Cup during the 2023/2024 season.
Yaqub’s father, Mr Usman Malah, expressed his excitement for his son’s future, stating, “While looking forward to the display of his unarguable skills and boundless stamina, we wish Yaqub a successful career and a place in the halls of football greatness across the globe.”
