LP stakeholders accuse APC of targeting Peter Obi over 2027 ambitions

The Alliance for Labour Party Stakeholders and Professionals has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is deploying smear tactics to undermine Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, as his influence grows ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued by the coalition’s convener, Dr. Blessing Elaigwu, the group condemned recent remarks made by APC National Spokesperson, Felix Morka, during a televised interview, accusing him of attempting to tarnish Obi’s reputation.

Dr. Elaigwu criticized Morka for refusing to apologize for his comments despite being given opportunities to do so during the interview. According to her, this refusal highlights the APC’s fear of Obi’s rising popularity.

“It is disappointing to see such calculated efforts to silence opposition voices,” Elaigwu stated. “Morka’s threat to compile a list of 400 Nigerians to be reported to security agencies is a blatant attempt to intimidate citizens into submission. This demonstrates a government fearful of the reckoning it will face at the polls in 2027.”

The coalition accused the APC of mismanaging the country’s economy, blaming the ruling party for increasing poverty and inequality.

“Nigerians are fed up with APC’s falsehoods and poor governance. Millions of citizens suffering under this administration’s failed policies are ready to push back against bad leadership and reclaim the economy,” the statement added.

The group also warned the APC against suppressing free speech and opposition voices, emphasizing that Nigerians would not be silenced by threats or intimidation.

“Morka and the APC should prepare for more criticism. If their plan is to silence Nigerians, they’ll need to expand prison facilities because the demand for accountability will only grow,” the coalition declared.

Dr. Elaigwu expressed confidence in Peter Obi’s capacity to lead Nigeria toward recovery, adding that the coalition and many Nigerians remain steadfast in their support for him.

The group urged the APC to focus on solving the nation’s pressing issues rather than attempting to weaken the opposition.
