Peter Obi denies arrest rumor, confirms presence in Onitsha

Must read

Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, has debunked rumors of his arrest, stating that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The clarification comes amid allegations of death threats and counterclaims between Obi and Felix Morka, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement posted on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi urged his supporters to disregard the rumors, calling them baseless and unfounded.

“I have been made aware of a circulating fake news about my alleged arrest. Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Such fake news on my person has become a pastime for some people,” Obi tweeted.

He also referenced a similar incident in September 2024, when it was falsely claimed that his home was raided by the Department of State Services (DSS) while he was in Rwanda.

“Last year, when I was in Rwanda, rumors spread that DSS invaded my house. Now, while I am in Onitsha, they claim I was arrested in Abuja. The motives behind these lies are far from positive, but we must not let such baseless rumors distract us from the critical issues facing our nation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Felix Morka addressed his earlier remarks about Obi on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, clarifying that his comments were in response to a question about Obi being labeled a “voodoo economist” and “prophet of doom.”

Morka further challenged Obi to provide evidence of the alleged threats against his life and family, emphasizing the need for clarity in such serious accusations.
