Multiple fatalities as granite truck crashes into motor park in Ibadan

An accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the busy Eleyele Bus Stop in Ibadan, Oyo State, when a truck loaded with granite lost control and crashed into a motor park, leaving many dead and several injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck first struck a group of roadside traders before ploughing into the park and hitting passengers.

The chaotic scene left onlookers in shock as rescue efforts began.

The driver reportedly fled the scene to evade being attacked by an angry mob, compounding the already dire situation.

Emergency responders are currently at the scene, working to recover victims and clear the wreckage. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties as efforts to restore order and traffic in the area continue.

Rosemary Alo, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

She expressed regret over the loss of lives and reiterated earlier warnings issued to roadside traders about the risks of conducting business in the area.

“If the traders had adhered to these warnings, the number of casualties could have been significantly reduced,” she stated.

Alo also disclosed that the FRSC, in collaboration with the local government, would intensify efforts to enforce a ban on street trading in the vicinity.

The accident has left the community in mourning, with authorities urging residents to adhere to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
