A court in Ikeja has dismissed an application by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, challenging the court’s jurisdiction in the $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion fraud case brought against him.
On Tuesday, Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court ruled on the matter, rejecting Emefiele’s plea.
The court also struck out one of the four charges related to abuse of office brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Oshodi affirmed that the court has the jurisdiction to hear the case, contrary to Emefiele’s claim.
He noted that the EFCC had sufficiently established the court’s territorial jurisdiction concerning counts eight to 26, supported by facts in the proof of evidence. The judge further indicated that the proof of evidence was included in the case file.
