Senate discloses date for passage of 2025 budget

Must read

The Nigerian Senate has announced a tentative date for the passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

Solomon Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, revealed that the budget, presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu, is set to be passed on January 31.

Adeola made this announcement during a meeting with all chairpersons of the Senate standing committees.

President Tinubu had earlier presented a N49.7 trillion budget to lawmakers on December 18. While the bill has already passed its second reading, Adeola confirmed that budget defense sessions by various ministries, parastatals, and agencies would begin on Tuesday, December 7.

He also noted that the reports from the budget defense would be submitted by committees between January 15 and 18.

Adeola further explained, “Following this, the Appropriations Committee will finalize the reports, with the goal of laying the final budget report before the Senate on January 31. However, this date is tentative and serves as a guideline for our work.”
