The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed scepticism over Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s claims of commanding strong support in Kano State.
Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Kano governor, has faced criticism from Ganduje, who questioned the validity of his popularity.
Speaking at the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum Dinner, Ganduje—represented by the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas—said the NNPP would face a major defeat in the 2027 elections.
The event honoured prominent APC members, including Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Hon. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, among others.
Ganduje attributed Kwankwaso’s success in the 2023 elections to internal APC conflicts, stating, “If not for our internal issues, Kwankwaso wouldn’t have won in Kano.
His supporters are now disappointed, and his political influence has waned.”
He added that the APC was ready to reclaim Kano, stressing the importance of unity among party members.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, echoed Ganduje’s sentiments, describing the current NNPP-led administration as ineffective and urging APC stakeholders to prepare for victory in 2027.
The dinner, attended by notable figures such as the Deputy Senate President’s representative, Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, highlighted the APC’s plans to regroup and strategize for the upcoming elections.
