Eyewitness claims student brought bomb that exploded in FCT school

An eyewitness has contradicted the account of the Nigerian Police Force regarding the explosion at Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the witness, the bomb, which detonated on Monday, was brought into the school by a student.

Reports indicate that the explosion claimed the lives of two students and injured four others.

The tragic incident occurred when the student, who had travelled from Katsina State a day prior, was allegedly showing the explosive device to another child.

“The device exploded while the boy from Katsina was displaying it to another student,” the eyewitness recounted.

The boy holding the explosive was killed instantly, while the second student succumbed to injuries later at a hospital.

Two other injured students are undergoing treatment: a girl at Kubwa General Hospital and a boy at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.

Disturbing images from the scene reveal the destruction caused by the explosion.

The school, a nomadic education facility consisting of three classrooms, has since been closed off by the FCT Police.

According to a security source, the incident occurred around noon on Monday, approximately 42 kilometres from Abuja’s city centre.

Emergency responders, including police bomb disposal experts, have been deployed to the scene.

Authorities issued a statement, although details remain unclear.

However, a security source confirmed, “The deceased student, whose identity remains unknown, was carrying what is suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated, injuring others and creating panic in the school.”

It was also revealed that the students involved had recently enrolled and resumed classes on January 3, 2025.

Efforts to contact school authorities for further comments have been unsuccessful.
