Deadly cult clash claims lives in Ondo

Must read

Four people have been confirmed dead in a violent cult clash in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, plunging the community into mourning.

Among the victims is Fisayo Oladipo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose death has sent shockwaves across political circles in the region.

The clash, which erupted on Monday, is believed to be linked to rival cult groups.

Eyewitnesses reported intense violence, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed during the mayhem.

Security agencies responded belatedly, leaving many residents to fend for themselves amid the chaos.

Cult clashes in the South West of Nigeria, particularly in areas with large youth populations and university campuses, have been a persistent issue.

Despite repeated calls by state governors for the Nigerian police to take decisive action, progress in curbing these violent activities remains minimal.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and called for a thorough investigation.

“This needless loss of lives is unacceptable,” he said in a statement. “We urge law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The rising frequency of cult violence has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for stronger preventive measures and community engagement to tackle the root causes of these conflicts.

For now, residents of Owo remain on edge, fearing further violence in the days ahead.
