Prominent activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has expressed serious concerns about the safety of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, following allegations of threats against his life.
Adeyanju condemned any actions aimed at harming or targeting Obi for his outspoken criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju remarked, “Threats to Peter Obi’s life for opposing the government are unacceptable. Criticism and accountability are patriotic acts, not crimes.”
He also warned that Nigeria is inching toward what he described as a “full-blown dictatorship” and cautioned against the nation becoming a one-party state.
Obi himself recently revealed that he had received threats after criticizing the Tinubu-led government.
These remarks followed comments from Felix Morka, the National Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), who accused Obi of “crossing the line” and hinted at potential repercussions.
In response to the allegations and threats, Obi expressed disappointment over what he perceives as increasing attacks on freedom of expression in Nigeria.
He pledged to continue speaking truthfully, even as dissenting voices face growing hostility.
