The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a new programme allowing students to retake their WASSCE papers in January and February 2025, significantly reducing the waiting time for resits.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, revealed that the initiative, dubbed WASSCE PC1, offers students an expedited chance to improve their grades.
“Students who check their results and find they need to resit one or two subjects have until 8th January to register online via our website or at WAEC-approved internet cafés.
“The exams will run from 24th January to 15th February 2025,” Kapi explained.
To support candidates, WAEC plans to release detailed chief examiners’ reports quickly.
These will highlight common mistakes and guide how to better prepare for the exams.
The programme has been promoted extensively through banners, the WAEC website, and the results checker platform to ensure students and parents are well-informed.
Students whose results were cancelled can also register, provided they are not currently serving a ban for malpractice.
For now, the exams will only be held in regional capitals due to the limited number of participants, with the registration deadline set for 8th January.
WAEC expressed confidence that this initiative will help candidates improve their grades and avoid a year-long delay in pursuing further education.
