President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Accra, Ghana, on Monday, January 7, to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s president-elect, John Mahama.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s spokesperson, it was disclosed that Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December 2024. He will take over from President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose tenure spanned from 2017 to 2025.
The trip follows an invitation from Mahama, who had visited President Tinubu in December.
“President Tinubu’s visit underscores the longstanding personal bond between him and Mahama, as well as the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana. As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will also join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony,” the statement noted.
The president will be accompanied by Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and other senior government officials.
