Seven injured as three-storey building collapses in Rivers

Must read

A three-storey building under construction collapsed in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, injuring seven individuals.

However, no fatalities were reported, according to Evans Bipi, the Rivers Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Emeka Idika, the commissioner praised the swift response by rescue teams from the ministry and the Special Duties Department, which prevented further casualties.

The victims were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Bipi expressed regret over the incident, noting that it was the fourth building collapse since he took office.

He revealed that initial investigations indicated that substandard materials, particularly the use of 12mm rods for decking, may have contributed to the collapse. The violation of construction standards has been linked to other similar incidents in the state.

The property has been sealed off as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collapse.
