The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission and Bala Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), are locked in a dispute over properties linked to a criminal case against him
The commission has accused Inuwa of using fraudulent means to secure a court order to reclaim the assets, which are suspected to have been acquired with proceeds from illicit activities.
Last November, the commission charged Inuwa, his son (Bala Inuwa Jr.), and the Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Compassionate Friends with diverting ₦4 billion from KASCO’s accounts into personal accounts.
Zahraddeen Hamisu Kofar Mata, the commission’s secretary and legal advisor, alleged that Inuwa had filed a baseless application that led Justice Aisha Yau of the state high court to deliver a default judgment against the police.
He added that the commission had sought to intervene in the case, as Inuwa is already facing conspiracy and misappropriation charges before Justice Hafsat Yahaya at High Court 11.
Hamisu further stated that the commission had requested a stay of execution and the reversal of the court’s judgment.
Meanwhile, the sealed property, located in Kumbotso Local Government Area, remains under police guard.
The assets include 15 heavy-duty vehicles, an excavator, a tractor, several smaller vehicles, hundreds of cement bags, chemicals, and grains such as soybeans and wheat.
In contrast, Inuwa’s lawyer, Ibrahim Tahir, accused the commission of defying a valid court order.
Tahir argued that the court had nullified its earlier decision granting the commission authority to seize the property, emphasizing that this was part of a fundamental rights enforcement application filed on behalf of his client.
