Panic has gripped the Kuchibiyu community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a tragic explosion at an Islamiyyah school.
The blast, which occurred on Monday, January 6, 2025, claimed the life of one student and left four others in critical condition.
According to a report by Premium Times, the incident took place around noon, sending shockwaves through the typically peaceful community located about 42 kilometres from Abuja’s city centre.
Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal unit, swiftly arrived at the scene, while the injured students were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
A security source suggested that the deceased student might have been carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated.
However, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the explosion or the circumstances surrounding it.
The incident has raised serious concerns among residents, with many calling for enhanced security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
