Benue resumes recruitment of 9,000 teachers after Assembly’s approval

Benue State has resumed the recruitment process for over 9,000 teachers following approval from the Benue State House of Assembly.

The recruitment was initially paused in mid-December to allow the Cephas Dyako-led Ad-Hoc Committee to review the process and ensure compliance with relevant laws.

After conducting its investigation, the committee confirmed that the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), headed by Dr. Grace Adagba, adhered to due process, leading to the suspension being lifted.

The committee’s report affirmed the Board’s authority to recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline staff above grade level 07.

The investigation also revealed that 74,574 candidates applied for the positions, with 48,895 attending the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

The recruitment process is now in its final stage, with the screening of applicants who met the required cut-off marks.

The screening will take place from January 10 to January 16, 2024, at the SUBEB headquarters, with applicants from all 23 local government areas assigned specific dates.

The Board expressed appreciation for the patience of all shortlisted applicants and reassured them of a smooth and transparent process aimed at ensuring quality basic education delivery in the state.
