Two police officers killed in Lakurawa terrorist attack

Natsini village in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State was attacked by suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group on Thursday, resulting in the death of two police officers.

The attackers also rustled over 200 cows belonging to a prominent civil servant in the community.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists, numbering over 50, stormed the village at around 11 p.m. on motorcycles.

The officers were killed at a checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road after being overpowered by the assailants.

A resident of the village, Abubakar Augie, recounted the incident, saying, “The Lakurawa were more than 50 on motorcycles. After overpowering the few policemen at the checkpoint, they went to where the cows were kept on the ranch and made away with them.”

Aliyu Gulma, the chairman of Argungu Local Government, confirmed the attack and stated that a security meeting is underway to address the situation.

He also noted that the Kebbi State Government has directed security agencies to apprehend the attackers and recover the stolen livestock.

The incident has heightened concerns about insecurity in the region, as communities continue to grapple with the threat of banditry and terrorism.
