PDP condemns assassination attempt on Senator

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has condemned the alleged assassination attempt on Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, who represents the Kaduna Central senatorial district.

In a statement issued by Hon. Maria Dogo, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, the party described the incident, which occurred on January 1, 2025, as deeply troubling. Senator Usman was inspecting ongoing constituency projects in the Kaduna North Local Government Area when the attack took place.

The PDP is calling for an immediate investigation into the matter, along with the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack, including any individuals who may have sponsored the assailants. The party also emphasized the need for increased security for elected officials and their families.

“The PDP will not stand by while the lives of our elected representatives are threatened,” the statement said. “Violence is never the answer—political power should be transferred through the ballot, not through violence.”

The party further urged its members to focus on positive initiatives and programs that will benefit the people of the senatorial district, thereby building trust and goodwill within the community.

The PDP also appealed for calm and peaceful conduct from its members and residents of Kaduna Central as the party seeks justice through lawful means.

“As emphasized by our state chairman in his New Year message, we remain committed to defending democracy and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard,” the statement concluded.
