Police in Ogun State have detained Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and butchering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 to host his daughter’s naming ceremony.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, disclosed that Waris was arrested on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area, alongside an accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.
It was gathered that the suspects entered a farm on December 25, 2024, while the farmer, identified as Mark, was away grazing his cattle. Upon returning, Mark discovered one of his goats was missing and alerted community members.
During the search, locals claimed they saw the two men transporting a goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town. Acting on the information, the police launched an investigation that led to their arrest.
Odutola said, “The suspects admitted during interrogation that they stole and slaughtered the goat. They revealed the meat was used to prepare meals for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter, held on December 27, 2024, in Olodo.”
The suspects remain in custody as further investigations continue at the Divisional Crime Branch.
